Bringing a rich warmth to the garden, this robust perennial offers a sophisticated palette of amber and bronze tones that persists throughout the year.
The ruffled, maple-like leaves are a deep, burnished copper-orange with hot pink undersides, creating a multi-tonal effect that glows, particularly when backlit by the sun. Unlike many of its shade-loving cousins, this variety is surprisingly tolerant of brighter positions, provided the soil remains moist.
In summer, tall, slender stems emerge carrying airy sprays of reddish-brown flowers, though it is the foliage that provides the real structural value. It forms a tight, neat mound that works exceptionally well at the front of a border or in a container, where it offers year-round consistency and contrast against green-leaved companions.
Barnsdale tip: To keep the plant vigorous and prevent it from becoming leggy, lift and divide the clumps every 2-3 years in early autumn or spring, replanting the crowns just at the surface level.
